Love is in the Air
Valentine’s Day always warms my heart when hearing friends and colleagues talk about their plans for the occasion.
Some new lovebirds are going all out with a dinner date, roses and a present; others who have been married for decades see it as just another day to stay at home.
My hubby and I, on the other hand, are hopeless romantics, even after 19 years of marriage!
Regardless of how tired we are or how much we don’t want to drag ourselves off the cosy couch after a long day at work, we push ourselves to celebrate the moment.
We try to reason that we don’t need Valentine’s Day to remind us that we love each other as we still enjoy a weekly date night when schedules allow.
However, there is something special about going out to a restaurant and seeing “lovebirds” gazing deeply into each other’s eyes.
Mature Love
We know that after being together for 20 years, it can be quite easy to become lazy about putting in the effort for keeping the romance alive. So, we make sure we work at it on a daily basis with weekly date nights and traditions through the year to enjoy.
And no, we are far from perfect! We’ve gone through all types of love in two decades – from the doe-eyed love, puppy type, can’t live without you stage to the ‘it’s really hard to love you right now’ phase.
However, what we have discovered throughout some challenging times was how much our love has matured. It’s steadfast and unshakeable. It’s not wishy-washy or conditional, but is solid and strong. It’s respecting each other and protecting one another.
The Right Type of Love
On the way to a nice restaurant with one red rose in hand, we discussed and reminded ourselves of our definition of love.
It’s a love that is unconditional and puts the other first taken straight from the Word of God as per below:
1 Corinthians 13:4-8
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
5 It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails.
1 Corinthians 13:13
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
The definition of love is different for everybody. However that looks like for you, I hope that you will have a ponder on the above and recognise that deep selfless love stands firm at all times.
May your heart be filled to the brim with the right type of love!
